Video guide for on-location shoots/The-shoot-day

By Brett

The Shoot Day

The entire shooting process will only take between 60-90 minutes. It’s simple and straightforward:

On the day of your scheduled shoot, I will arrive at the appointed time to shoot your video ad.
At that time I will conduct a brief consultation and go through the Pre-shoot checklist. I will have you sign the necessary releases for your video.
We will walk through your location to find the best spots to conduct the interview. If you wish to be in the video, the I will spend the next 15-20 minutes interviewing you on camera. If you don’t want to be on camera, you can be interviewed off camera; or an employee or person of your choice can be interviewed on your behalf.
I will then film different parts of your business to match the audio captured during the interview process.
That’s it! We have everything we need to create an authentic, compelling video.

Tips for a successful shoot:

Think of the key messages you want communicated in your video. Brettervideo has developed a Pre-Shoot Checklist to identify key messages, specific features and physical areas of your business to include in the video. Please fill out that checklist and give it to me when I arrive.

An appearance and location release must be signed by any person prominently featured on camera (regardless of whether they speak or not) and by the property owner, manager or other party responsible for the location. In addition, all children must have a parent or guardian sign the release. I will bring release forms with me.

Consider including a second voice. A personable employee or business partner can add credibility and validate your key messages.

Talk in complete sentences. No matter who speaks, sound bites sound best when they are delivered as brief, complete thoughts.

Schedule your shoot during normal business hours near (but not at) peak hours. This ensures that your business looks vibrant and full of life in the video.

Interact with your customers. Let viewers know how valuable they are to your business.

Customer testimonials are a powerful tool to encourage new customers to patronize your business. If possible, have a customer talk about why they love your business.

Lighting is critical to the quality of your video. We shoot using all natural lighting. If you own a restaurant or a bar think about how you can temporarily improve lighting.

If your business is noisy, find a quiet location where the interviews can be recorded. Let your filmmaker know of alternative interview areas should the main business area become too loud.
